Faith-filled Fanfic?

There’s often a disconnect between what we claim to believe and what we do.

As a Christian content creator in the fanfiction space, I’m constantly challenged to show others what I believe through my writing.

Part of sharing my Faith with others involves talking, not just about the basic tenants of my beliefs, but also the joy that comes as a result. After all, what lasting satisfaction is there in something that only makes people miserable?

In my fanfic writing, illustrating my Faith means many things:

  1. Including Christian characters of varying maturity

  2. Discussing Christianity on-page

  3. Exploring how Christians and non-Christians respond to the same events

  4. Watching characters grow to a place where they either accept or reject Christianity, and letting them make that choice, regardless how I feel about it

  5. Allowing a character to briefly experience literal Hell

  6. Witnessing characters step through death and into Heaven

  7. Seeing situations that seem impossible until God intervenes

  8. Showing honest conflicts that include both Christians and non-Christians

  9. Acknowledging Christians make mistakes—sometimes big ones that severely hurt others

  10. Challenging Christian characters’ beliefs, whether that be through other characters, personal struggles, or via story events

That is by no means an exhaustive list, but over the next 10 posts (or more—we’ll have to see), I want to discuss the how and why of each point on this list, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on any—or all—of these, whether you leave me a comment below, PM me on whatever social platform we might share, or send me an email through the Contact page. Agree or disagree, I’d love to hear from you.

I’m looking forward to sharing with you more about how my Faith informs and fuels my fanfiction work.
